The Aditi Debating Society offers students from Std 8 upwards a fantastic opportunity to develop crucial life skills in a fun and engaging environment.
As an after-school activity, we provide a platform for students to hone their critical thinking abilities by tackling complex issues and analysing diverse perspectives. Debating empowers students to construct well-reasoned arguments on the most burning topics of our time, through age-appropriate “motions”, thereby strengthening their logical reasoning and analytical skills. Furthermore, it significantly improves public speaking skills, teaching students to articulate their ideas clearly and persuasively, fostering confidence in speaking before an audience. This confidence extends beyond the debate chamber, building self-assurance that benefits students in all aspects of their lives. Debating also encourages teamwork and collaboration, as students need to work in teams of three, to prepare arguments and strategise. We primarily focus on Parliamentary Debate, a dynamic format that simulates the British Parliamentary traditions. This format challenges debaters to think on their feet, responding to opposing arguments in real-time and further enhancing their critical thinking and adaptability.
