The Humanities Department decided to use films at a macro scale and organized a Film Festival for all students from Std 9 to Std 12. The idea of this film festival and its theme, ‘Hues of Our Freedom Struggle’, originated during the screening of a documentary where we received an unexpectedly positive response from the students and teachers.

The purpose of this film festival was to give students a wider exposure to the stories, people and events surrounding the freedom movement leading up to the partition, which takes them beyond merely the information that is contained in our history books. Additionally, the array of films in the festival helped to trigger emotional connections and spark conversations that were not just limited to history but extended to culture, ethics, economics, film studies etc.

Each film screening was followed by a detailed panel discussion comprising the subject and industry experts. To assess the students’ participation and understanding, a grade appropriate assignment was designed by the English department.
