SUPW is a mandatory part of the senior school curriculum. At MAIS we have chosen 4 communities where students of standard 11 and 12 work. These communities have been carefully chosen keeping in mind how we can both contribute to and learn enough from these communities. These communities include the Indira Gandhi International Academy for SriLankan refugee children and the Spastics Soceity of Karnataka. Other projects being a Public school located in a slum community of urban Bangalore, MRS Palya and the Najmusseher School.
Some Std 12 students also work in the Elememtary School at MAIS itself. This helps the senior students not only refine and better their organization skills but also learn life skills of patience, cooperation, an understanding of the limitations of the smaller children.
Counselling Services
Counselling services are an integral part of the social and emotional fabric of the school community. Two qualified clinical psychologists provide in-school counselling services to students, parents and teachers. The team works with students either in groups or individually on study skills, adolescent health, stress-management, interpersonal and social skills.
The counsellors work closely with teachers on issues of identifying and assessing students with emotional and learning difficulties, providing student specific and general classroom management strategies, conducting teacher workshops and contributing inputs to the Personal and Social education curriculum.
Our counsellors also liase with parents, lending them a much needed ear, in addition to conducting age-specific parenting skill workshops.
